Crude set the tone overnight, and it set it lower. Brent (UKOil) fell 6.57% to 103.44 and WTI (USOil) dropped 6.01% to 95.25 β€” the two largest moves on the board. Both are now down more than 4% on the week, though each still sits far higher over the year, with Brent up 59.64% and WTI up 56.40%.

Currencies

The oil slide spilled straight into the Norwegian krone. EUR/NOK rose 1.27% to 10.4066 and GBP/NOK added 1.13% to 12.4675, two of the day’s biggest gainers, while USD/NOK climbed 0.93% to 9.3001.

The dollar was softer against most majors. EUR/USD firmed 0.30% to 1.1188 and GBP/USD edged up 0.17% to 1.3405, while USD/JPY held at 157.92, barely changed on the day and the week. USD/MXN fell 1.20% to 18.566 and CHF/JPY rose 0.95% to 192.99. The Australian dollar lagged, with AUD/USD off 0.47% to 0.6994 and AUD/CHF down 1.24%.

Crypto

The complex opened broadly red. Bitcoin slipped 1.96% to 76,700.83 and is down 11.32% on the month and 28.03% on the year, while Ethereum held up better at 2,248.56, a 1.02% loss on the day.

The damage ran deeper down the board. GRT fell 4.00% and is off 34.47% over the month; Tezos lost 3.74%, Litecoin 3.30% to 53.69, and Solana 3.00% to 91.52, leaving Solana down 9.52% on the week. Cardano eased 2.49% to 0.1878 and BNB 2.07% to 697.12. XRP was the lone near-flat name, easing just 0.10% to 1.2470, while Stellar fell 2.80% to 0.1631 and Dogecoin 1.99% to 0.0737.

Metals and equities

Precious metals bucked the risk-off tone. Silver rose 1.57% to 50.53 and gold added 1.21% to 3,945.63, both among the day’s top gainers β€” though each remains lower over the month, silver by 16.67% and gold by 4.75%. The rest of the complex fell, with palladium down 2.44% to 967.99 and platinum flat at 1,444.90.

Equities split by region. Spain’s IBEX 35 led with a 2.00% gain to 18,934.62, the CAC 40 rose 1.02% and the Euro Stoxx 50 edged up 0.33%, but US tech stayed soft: the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.58% to 28,075.94, extending a 5.45% weekly slide, and the S&P 500 slipped 0.76% to 7,553.08. Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.30% on the day but is down 9.88% on the month, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.81% to 23,532.26 and the FTSE 100 and DAX 40 managed gains of 0.23% and 0.21%.

Crude and the US tech names remain the session’s clear weak spots.
