Crude is the morning’s outlier. Brent (UKOil) dropped 9.06% to 94.30 and WTI (USOil) fell 8.20% to 87.90, while almost every other market opened higher.
Energy
The oil slide is the week’s defining move. Brent is down 15.17% over seven days and WTI 13.81%, leaving front-month crude at 94.30 and 87.90. Over 30 days the pullback is milder, with Brent off 5.65% and WTI just 1.45%. Both still sit about 47% above year-ago levels β UKOil +47.43%, USOil +47.13% β so the drop unwinds recent gains rather than the year’s.
Metals
The precious complex pushed the other way, taking four of the top five gainers. Palladium led the entire board at +6.83% to 1,007.35, platinum followed at +5.19% to 1,495.94, silver rose 4.71% to 52.23 and gold added 3.11% to 4,060.57. The bounce works against soft one-month trends β palladium -14.41%, silver -14.82%, platinum -12.57% β though silver (+8.82%) and gold (+2.19%) still hold year-to-date gains.
Crypto
Crypto carried the clearest risk-on tone. Ethereum jumped 6.40% to 2,416.86 and leads the week at +7.53%. Bitcoin added 3.45% to 80,009.48, holding the 80k handle, while UNIUSD rose 5.56% to 7.6265 on a 17.97% weekly run. LNKUSD gained 3.44% to 11.385, up 7.60% on the week. Cardano (+3.38%), GRTUSD (+3.61%), Litecoin (+3.06% to 55.84), BNB (+2.57% to 715.48), Stellar (+2.50%) and XRP (+2.15% to 1.3016) filled out a green board; Solana (+1.88% to 94.39) lagged, still down 0.97% on the week. The month stays red across the group β Ethereum -10.39%, Bitcoin -6.47%.
Currencies and indices
The dollar opened softer against most peers. USDMXN fell 1.15% to 18.599 and USDZAR 1.05% to 16.411, with USDPLN (-0.74%) and USDSEK (-0.39%, down 1.10% on the week) also lower. The Aussie (+0.55% to 0.70052) and Kiwi (+0.51% to 0.56200) led the majors, EURUSD edged up 0.19% to 1.12276 and GBPUSD rose 0.27% to 1.34683, while USDJPY sat flat at 158.41 and USDCHF eased 0.31% to 0.81670. Among the crosses, GBPJPY firmed 0.25% to 213.39 and EURGBP held at 0.83328. Equities matched the mood β Hang Seng +4.43%, IBEX 35 +3.60%, the Dow +3.35% (year +12.84%) and DAX +3.21%, with the FTSE 100 +2.95% to 10,909.74 and the S&P 500 +1.70% to 7,702.61 (year +13.16%). The Nikkei 225 barely moved at +0.25%, nursing a 10.77% monthly loss, and the Nasdaq 100 trailed at +1.04%, still down 8.80% on the month.
Crude stays the session’s one market pulling against an otherwise green open.
