The Bank of England’s rate decision and Monetary Policy Report landed at 12:00 UTC on 5 November, and sterling firmed across every major cross in the 90 minutes that followed. GBPNOK led the move, rising 0.21%.

Where the pound moved

GBPNOK was the biggest mover, climbing from 12.4886 to 12.5145, a gain of 0.21%. GBPAUD followed closely, up 0.20% from 1.91781 to 1.92158.

GBPNZD added 0.18%, lifting from 2.38914 to 2.39342, while GBPJPY rose 0.12% from 213.052 to 213.309.

The softer end of the board saw GBPSGD gain 0.10%, moving from 1.71747 to 1.71921. GBPUSD was the laggard, inching just 0.05% from 1.3453 to 1.3460.

What the reaction shows

The reaction leaned uniformly in sterling’s favour, with every tracked cross higher since the release. The firmest moves clustered against the Norwegian krone and the Antipodean currencies, while the pound’s gain against the US dollar was the slimmest of the set.

The spread between the biggest and smallest move was narrow β€” a little under sixteen basis points β€” pointing to a broad but measured response rather than a sharp, single-pair repricing. Against the dollar in particular, the reaction was close to muted.
