New Zealand’s parliamentary election crossed the wire at 21:45 UTC on 6 November 2026, and the New Zealand dollar edged higher across every cross we track. The firmest reaction came against the Swiss franc, where NZDCHF rose 0.18%.

Where the Kiwi moved

NZDCHF led the way, lifting from 0.45419 to 0.45502, a 0.18% gain on our M15 feed.

NZDUSD followed closely, climbing from 0.55371 to 0.55462, up 0.16%.

NZDCAD added 0.15%, moving from 0.78223 to 0.783405, while NZDJPY rose 0.11%, from 87.791 to 87.891.

The crosses that quote the Kiwi against a stronger base slipped as the NZD firmed: EURNZD eased 0.09%, from 2.01086 to 2.00914, and GBPNZD edged down 0.06%, from 2.40945 to 2.408075.

What the reaction shows

The move was uniform in direction: the New Zealand dollar strengthened against each of its six counterparts on our feed, and weakened against none. That consistency, rather than the size of any single move, is the notable feature here.

Concentration sat at one end of the spread β€” the franc and the US dollar β€” where NZDCHF and NZDUSD posted the largest gains. The yen and Canadian dollar crosses moved less, and the euro and sterling crosses gave back only fractions of a percent.

With every move inside two-tenths of a percent, the overall reaction reads as modest rather than dramatic: a broad, measured firming in the Kiwi immediately after the vote.
