Risk assets broke hard into the New York close. The Nasdaq 100 fell 6.51% to 26,555.98, the S&P 500 lost 4.55% to 7,345.23, and the Dow Jones 30 shed 3.85% to 51,363.56 — the heaviest US equity session anywhere in the data.

Equities

The selloff deepened an already soft month. The Nasdaq 100 is now down 14.85% over 30 days and 6.44% on the week, though it still holds a 5.40% gain on the year. The S&P 500 is off 5.84% on the month but remains 9.04% higher over twelve months.

Tokyo led the global decline, the Nikkei 225 dropping 8.46% to 57,358.26 and 17.88% lower on the month. Europe closed red but far shallower: the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.92%, the FTSE 100 1.96%, and the DAX 40 1.82%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was the lone gainer, up 0.16% and 4.89% on the week.

Crypto

Crypto took the day’s sharpest single hits. UNIUSD slid 10.65%, the worst mover in the set. Stellar fell 8.17% and Ethereum 7.94% to 2,229.59. Bitcoin dropped 5.67% to 75,862.21, with Cardano off 7.31%, Dogecoin 6.64%, XRP 6.15%, and Solana 5.82%. The declines extended steep annual losses — Cardano is down 65.62% and Stellar 42.87% over the year.

Commodities and metals

The bid went to oil and precious metals. Brent crude (UKOil) rose 3.95% to 97.69 and WTI (USOil) 2.92% to 90.24, though both remain roughly 12% lower on the week. Gold added 0.60% to 4,090.07 and sits 5.53% higher over seven days; platinum gained 1.31% and palladium 2.35%. Silver slipped 0.88% to 51.80 but kept a 5.45% weekly advance.

Currencies

FX carried a clear safe-haven tilt. The yen firmed across the board, pulling AUDJPY down 1.52% and NZDJPY 0.96%, with USDJPY easing to 157.72. The Australian dollar was the G10 laggard, AUDUSD off 1.10% and AUDCHF 1.05%, while EURAUD rose 0.95% to 1.61909 — the biggest major-pair gainer. EURUSD held near flat at 1.12141.

Tech remains the session’s weak spot: the Nasdaq 100’s 6.51% drop outpaced the broader S&P 500 and Dow, leaving the index 14.85% lower on the month.
