Oil was the European session’s defining move, and it broke sharply lower. Brent crude (UKOil) tumbled 9.06% to 94.30 and US crude (USOil) fell 8.20% to 87.90 β€” the two biggest losers on the board by a wide margin. Almost everything else closed higher.

The crude slide is now a week-long story. Brent is down 15.17% over five sessions and WTI 13.81%, trimming what had been a powerful run: both contracts still sit more than 47% higher on the year, at +47.43% and +47.13% respectively. The one-day drop undoes a meaningful slice of that.

Metals

The metals complex ran hard the other way, filling four of the five top gainer slots. Palladium led the entire market, up 6.83% to 1,007.35, with platinum close behind at +5.19% to 1,495.94. Silver added 4.71% to 52.23 and gold rose 3.11% to 4,060.57.

The bounce only dents a soft month. Palladium remains down 14.41% over 30 days, silver 14.82% and platinum 12.57%; gold’s month is a milder -2.53%.

European Equities

London and the continent closed broadly and sharply higher. Spain’s IBEX 35 led at +3.60% to 19,464.64 β€” now up 20.72% on the year β€” with the DAX 40 up 3.21% to 26,658.52 and the FTSE 100 adding 2.95% to 10,909.74. The Euro Stoxx 50 gained 2.76% to 6,300.18 and the CAC 40 rose 2.64% to 8,222.45.

The risk-on tone was global. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumped 4.43% to 24,445.06 and the Dow added 3.35% to 53,436.97. US tech lagged, though: the Nasdaq 100 rose just 1.04% and is down 8.80% on the month, while the S&P 500 added 1.70%. Tokyo barely moved, the Nikkei 225 up 0.25% and still off 10.77% over 30 days.

Crypto

Digital assets joined the bid. Ethereum climbed 6.40% to 2,416.86, now up 7.53% on the week, while Bitcoin rose 3.45% to hold just above the round number at 80,009.48 β€” still down 6.47% on the month. Uniswap (UNIUSD) gained 5.56% and is up 17.97% over seven days.

FX

Currency moves were comparatively muted, with the dollar on the back foot. It fell 1.15% against the Mexican peso to 18.599, 1.05% versus the South African rand to 16.411 and 0.74% against the Polish zloty. EUR/USD edged up 0.19% to 1.12276 and GBP/USD gained 0.27% to 1.34683, extending the pound’s 0.68% weekly advance.

Oil remains the session’s clear weak spot β€” down double digits across the week even as equities, metals and crypto rallied together.
