The Euro Area releases its Core CPI Flash Estimate (year-on-year) at 10:00 UTC, and the early inflation read is the euro session’s focal point. As a flash estimate on a medium-impact calendar, it offers one of the first looks at underlying price pressures across the single-currency bloc before the confirmed data follows.
What the Core CPI flash estimate measures
The core CPI flash estimate tracks the annual change in euro-zone consumer prices while stripping out the most volatile components β typically energy, food, alcohol and tobacco. Markets follow the core gauge closely because it is treated as a cleaner read on persistent inflation than the headline figure, and it feeds directly into how traders frame European Central Bank policy expectations.
The forecast stands at 2.5%, matching the previous reading of 2.5%. That unchanged projection is itself the talking point, keeping attention on whether underlying inflation is settling into a steady pace.
How the euro pairs are trading
Ahead of the print, the euro is trading firmer across most of the crosses in our feed. EUR/JPY leads the move, up 0.5% at 177.62, with EUR/AUD close behind, 0.47% higher at 1.60625. EUR/CHF is up 0.25% at 0.91833, while EUR/SGD and EUR/CAD have added 0.18% and 0.15% to 1.43395 and 1.56708 respectively. EUR/NOK is the outlier, down 0.23% at 10.38277. The spread of moves is modest and concentrated in the euro-cross space.
The core flash estimate is watched as a measure of how sticky euro-zone inflation is running into the ECB’s next policy assessment.
