Silver led the US close lower, down 5.7% to $55.61 β the sharpest move among the day’s covered instruments and the front edge of a broad metals selloff.
Metals
The weakness ran across the complex. Silver’s 5.7% slide leaves it down 6.63% on the week and 12.62% on the month, though it still holds a 4.85% gain over the year.
Platinum fell 3.44% to $1,602.78 and is now 10.1% lower on the month. Palladium dropped 2.21% to $1,102.25, extending a month-long decline to 15.45%.
Gold was the steadiest of the group but still eased 1.23% to $4,103.98, off 4.19% over the month and 2.5% on the year.
Equities
US indices closed on the back foot. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 2.05% to 29,913.46 and the S&P 500 lost 1.11% to 7,715.99, while the Dow Jones 30 held flatter at 51,599.74, down just 0.09%.
The heaviest index of the session was the Nikkei 225, down 2.26% to 66,327.32 and 3.13% lower on the week β yet still up 37.81% across the year. The Hang Seng slipped 1.09% to 24,051.46.
Europe was mixed, and the FTSE 100 stood out as a gainer, up 0.55% to 10,701.29 and 1.65% higher on the week. Longer term, the Nasdaq 100 remains up 20.79% on the year and the S&P 500 up 15.64%, keeping the day’s drop in context.
Crypto
Digital assets were broadly red. Bitcoin eased 1.57% to $81,782 and Ethereum fell 3.01% to $2,420.18. The sharper moves came further down the board: UNI lost 4.58% to $7.19, GRT fell 3.85%, and XTZ dropped 3.64% β though XTZ is still up 27.91% on the month.
Dogecoin (-3.09%) and Cardano (-3.14%) rounded out the declines. Bitcoin, for its part, remains 8.21% higher on the month even as it sits 26.2% below its level a year ago.
Currencies
The dollar firmed against most crosses. USD/SEK rose 0.57% to 10.0195 and USD/MXN added 0.56% to 18.474, now up 7.76% on the month. EUR/USD slipped 0.44% to 1.1151, leaving it 3.33% lower on the month, while GBP/USD fell 0.58% to 1.3179.
Metals remain the session’s clear weak spot: silver’s weekly and monthly declines outpace every other covered asset on the board.
