Crude did the heavy lifting into the New York close. Brent (UKOil) climbed 3.67% to 107.56 and WTI (USOil) added 3.01% to 99.03 β€” the two standout gainers on the board while risk assets elsewhere leaned lower.

Energy and metals

UKOil now sits 5.98% higher on the week and 75.67% above its level of a year ago. USOil is up 9.87% over five sessions and 72.99% on the year. Those were the only two commodities on the feed, and both finished firmly green.

Metals were quieter. Gold held at 4,165.82, up 0.24% on the day but still 4.86% lower on the month. Platinum edged up 0.31% to 1,627.42, Palladium slipped 0.98% to 1,116.85, and silver eased 0.18% to 56.98 β€” the last now down 13.99% over the past month.

Crypto

The session’s losers were almost entirely digital assets. Tezos (XTZUSD) dropped 6.48% to 0.2714 and Polkadot (DOTUSD) fell 5.93% to 1.111, the two weakest names on the whole board. GRT (-3.66%), LNK (-3.74%) and Cardano (-3.11% to 0.2181) followed.

The majors were softer but steadier: Bitcoin slipped 0.46% to 81,120.55 and Ethereum lost 0.92% to 2,397.64. Solana fell 2.0% to 102.16 and XRP lost 2.16% to 1.2806. The weekly picture is heavier still β€” Cardano and Stellar are each down 13.31% over seven days, and GRT has shed 15.05%.

Equities

Tech and Japan led the downside. The Nikkei 225 fell 2.85% to 63,450.72, extending an 8.05% weekly slide even as it holds a 31.56% year-on-year gain. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 2.0% to 29,189.34 and the S&P 500 lost 0.94% to 7,657.82, while the Dow Jones 30 held up better at -0.35%.

Europe was mixed. The FTSE 100 added 0.27% to 10,836.56 and the DAX 40 edged up 0.07%, but the CAC 40 fell 0.58% and the Euro Stoxx 50 lost 0.54%.

Currencies

The dollar drifted lower across the majors. The New Zealand dollar led, with NZDUSD up 0.54% to 0.5650, followed by GBPUSD at +0.43% (1.33263) and AUDUSD at +0.38%. EURUSD firmed 0.22% to 1.12365.

The oil bid showed up in the commodity-linked crosses: USDNOK fell 0.52% and USDCAD dropped 0.41% to 1.41358. USDSEK and USDCHF each eased around 0.5%, while USDJPY was little changed at 157.96.

Crude remains the clear outlier to the upside into the close, while the Nasdaq and the crypto board stayed the session’s weak spots.
