Oil led the London session’s declines, with Brent (UKOil) down 1.91% to 99.16 and WTI (USOil) off 1.59% to 88.39. Away from energy, crypto stretched to both extremes: Cardano topped the day’s gainers at +3.51% while Stellar led the losers, down 3.61%.
Energy and equities
Both oil benchmarks slipped on the day yet hold green over the week — Brent +4.10%, WTI +0.33% — and their 12-month gains remain outsized at 51.64% and 43.67% respectively.
European equities split. The IBEX 35 added 1.03% to 19,336.31, extending a 24.44% year, while the CAC 40 fell 0.84% to 7,851.72 and now sits 5.20% lower on the month. The DAX 40 (25,311.07) and Euro Stoxx 50 (6,255.08) finished effectively flat, and the FTSE 100 edged up 0.17% to 10,518.47. Asia had set a firmer tone earlier, the Hang Seng up 1.78% and the Nikkei 225 +0.51% to 69,977.20, now 44.73% higher on the year. Wall Street firmed into the European close, the S&P 500 +0.58% to 7,777.99 and the Nasdaq 100 +0.64%.
Crypto
Cardano’s 3.51% rise to 0.2684 caps a 20.41% month, and Polkadot climbed 2.58% to 1.233, up 26.33% over 30 days. Tezos (XTZUSD) added 1.32% and leads the majors on a monthly basis at +43.39%.
The red side was broader. Stellar’s 3.61% drop to 0.21556 and LNKUSD’s 2.37% fall — now down 4.54% on the week — led declines, while BNB lost 1.16% to 785.12. Bitcoin eased 0.82% to 85,787.77 and Ethereum slipped 0.47% to 2,713.37, both still higher on the month at +6.81% and +7.94%.
Currencies and metals
The euro was the soft spot in FX. EUR/USD fell 0.31% to 1.12168, down 3.39% on the month, and the single currency lost ground across crosses — EUR/NOK -0.97%, EUR/AUD -0.64%. Sterling held steadier, GBP/USD -0.17% at 1.32165, while USD/JPY firmed 0.11% to 157.92.
In metals, platinum rose 0.95% to 1,720.48 and silver gained 0.69% to 61.06, up 25.94% on the year. Gold was all but unchanged at 4,141.57 but remains 6.37% lower on the month, while palladium (1,177.78) sits 15.34% below where it stood 30 days ago.
Oil stays the session’s weak spot, and the euro’s month-long slide is the clearest trend running beneath the day’s crypto noise.
