Europe’s major bourses closed the London day broadly lower. The DAX 40 fell 1.45% to 25,203.11 and the FTSE 100 dropped 1.43% to 10,713.15 β two of the heaviest fallers across all 83 instruments on the board.
European equities
The weakness was uniform. Spain’s IBEX 35 lost 1.39% to 18,915.93, the CAC 40 slid 1.08% to 7,810.58, and the Euro Stoxx 50 eased 0.95% to 6,098.18. The monthly picture is softer too: the Euro Stoxx 50 is down 2.22% and the IBEX 2.86%, though the IBEX still holds a 19.43% gain on the year.
Wall Street offered a contrast rather than a lead. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.41% to 29,554.14 and the S&P 500 was flat at 7,697.16, while the Dow Jones 30 slipped 0.33% to 52,008.49. The day’s standout equity gain sat in Tokyo, where the Nikkei 225 rose 1.21% to 64,733.39 β up 30.02% on the year, even after a 4.61% drop over the past week.
Metals
Precious metals were the session’s other soft spot. Gold fell 1.06% to 4,140.53, extending a 5.31% monthly decline. Palladium dropped 1.26% to 1,115.03 and is now down 14.88% on the month, with platinum off 0.54% to 1,636.42 and 9.52% lower over the same stretch. Silver eased 0.51% to 57.07; it remains 8.74% higher on the year despite a 13.94% monthly fall.
Crypto
Cardano was the single worst performer on the board, down 1.59% to 0.2171 and 67.24% lower over twelve months. The gainers’ list was led by crypto names: UNIUSD rose 1.62% to 7.311 and Polkadot added 1.35% to 1.129, with Litecoin up 1.00% to 59.61. The majors barely moved β Bitcoin was effectively unchanged at 81,966.05, down 0.03%, and Ethereum slipped 0.20% to 2,402.08.
Currencies and energy
In FX, the dollar firmed against the yen, with USD/JPY up 0.44% to 158.49. The euro edged down 0.13% to 1.12093 and the pound fell 0.28% to 1.32959. Crude held its ground as equities sold off: USOil rose 0.52% to 98.07, up 4.62% on the week, and UKOil gained 0.69% to 106.68, a level 75.46% above where it traded a year ago.
European indices were the session’s clear weak spot, with the DAX, FTSE and IBEX all finishing within a few basis points of each other to the downside.
