BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda spoke at 06:35 UTC on October 6, and the yen’s reaction was modest and uneven. The clearest move came in EURJPY, which firmed 0.17% as the yen eased against the euro.
Where the yen moved
EURJPY led, rising from 177.241 to 177.541 (+0.17%) in the 55 minutes after the remarks β the yen’s softest showing of the session.
The Antipodean crosses pointed the same way. AUDJPY climbed from 110.121 to 110.224 (+0.09%), and NZDJPY rose from 88.432 to 88.511 (+0.09%), both edging up alongside the euro cross.
Against the dollar the yen leaned the other way: USDJPY slipped from 158.167 to 158.090 (-0.05%). CHFJPY was near flat, easing from 190.079 to 190.034 (-0.02%), while CADJPY barely budged, 110.760 to 110.765 (+0.005%).
What the reaction shows
The move concentrated in the European and Antipodean crosses, where the yen gave a little ground. Against the dollar and the franc the picture was flat to marginally firmer, so this read as a split rather than a one-way response.
With every move inside 0.2%, the overall reaction was muted. The yen softened most where it traded against the euro, held its footing versus the dollar and franc, and left the Canadian cross all but unchanged.
