The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes the Core Producer Price Index (PPI) for the previous month at 12:30 UTC on 15 October. It is the session’s marquee U.S. data point, and it lands while dollar-priced metals and altcoins are already trading heavily across our feed.

What Core PPI measures

Core PPI tracks the month-over-month change in the prices domestic producers receive for their goods and services, stripping out the volatile food and energy categories. Markets watch it as an early, upstream gauge of inflation, because costs at the producer level can filter through to the consumer prices measured by CPI weeks later.

The consensus forecast is 0.3% for the month, a touch above the 0.2% recorded in the prior reading. As a dollar- and rate-sensitive input, the figure is followed by traders of precious metals and risk assets alike.

How the silver and crypto markets are trading

The sharpest move on our feed is MATUSD, down 6.22% at 0.0859. Silver (XAGUSD) is close behind, off 5.70% at 55.61, while platinum (XPTUSD) is lower by 3.44% at 1,602.78.

Among the altcoins, UNIUSD has shed 4.58% to 7.192, GRTUSD is down 3.85% at 0.025, and XTZUSD is off 3.64% at 0.286. The common thread is weakness across instruments typically sensitive to the U.S. dollar and interest-rate expectations.

Core PPI is watched as one of the first inflation signals in the monthly pipeline, and the gap between the 0.3% forecast and the 0.2% prior is the detail traders check against the release.
