US Unemployment Claims are due Thursday at 12:30 UTC, and the weekly labour print is the dollar-focused data point of the session. The release offers one of the timeliest reads on the health of the US jobs market.
What US Unemployment Claims measures
Unemployment Claims, also known as initial jobless claims, count the number of people who filed for unemployment insurance for the first time during the past week. Because it arrives weekly, it is watched as an early, high-frequency signal of labour-market conditions between the monthly nonfarm payrolls reports.
The forecast is 205K, marginally above the previous reading of 203K. Markets follow the trend as much as the single figure, since a rising path can point to a softening jobs picture while a falling one suggests resilience.
