Crude opens the day as the standout. USOil rallied 4.62% to $89.47 and UKOil added 4.43% to $94.11, both stretching a weekly gain near 10% and a monthly advance above 13%.

The move ran directly against precious metals, which filled out four of the five biggest losers.

Metals

Palladium led the decline, down 4.76% to $1,304.28. Silver fell 3.77% to $64.08, platinum dropped 2.90% to $1,742.98, and gold slid 2.79% to $4,328.37.

The pullbacks bite into recent strength rather than erase it: silver is still up 56.82% on the year and gold up 22.62%. Over the past week, however, gold has shed 6.39% and silver 7.05%.

Currencies

The dollar firmed broadly. USDCAD rose 0.34% to 1.38989 and USDCHF gained 0.34% to 0.81099, while USDJPY added 0.28% to 160.19.

The commodity currencies lagged despite the oil bid. NZDUSD fell 0.52% to 0.58895 and AUDUSD dropped 0.33% to 0.71459. EURUSD eased 0.26% to 1.15874 and GBPUSD matched that at 1.35126.

USDZAR climbed 1.17% on the week to 16.124, and USDSEK is up 0.82% over the same stretch to 9.60318. USDNOK bucked the trend, down 0.30% to 9.31051 as the krone drew support from the crude rally.

Crypto

Majors traded lower across the board. Bitcoin fell 1.83% to $77,106.91, holding a 21.52% monthly gain despite the slip. Ethereum dropped 2.21% to $2,412.26, still up 29.81% on the month.

Solana was the heaviest of the large caps, down 3.60% to $99.25, though it remains 35.14% higher over 30 days. XRP fell 2.55% to $1.3435 and BNB lost 1.58% to $679.23.

UNIUSD was the day’s single biggest gainer anywhere, up 11.80% to $5.844 and 33.39% higher on the week. Polkadot added 2.51% and Litecoin 1.92%, but they were the exceptions in a red field.

Indices

Stocks opened the week softer worldwide. The DAX 40 fell 1.49% to 25,824.86 and the Nikkei 225 dropped 1.46% to 64,842.25, the latter still up 54.11% year-on-year.

Wall Street benchmarks slipped too: the Nasdaq 100 lost 1.26% to 29,078.75, the Dow 0.81% to 52,783.28 and the S&P 500 0.74% to 7,635.71. Europe’s Euro Stoxx 50 shed 1.04% to 6,341.58.

The split between a surging energy complex and a broad retreat in metals, crypto and equities is the session’s defining feature.
