Hard assets are the story into the open. Platinum led the entire board with a 4.27% jump to $1,903.38, while crude and silver climbed and crypto sat squarely among the day’s heaviest losers.
Metals and energy
Platinum’s move extends a 8.86% gain over the month. Silver added 2.51% to $67.22 and now stands 63.19% higher on the year.
Gold rose 1.15% to $4,399.75, though it remains down 1.79% on the week. Palladium lagged the group, up 0.88% at $1,355.76 but off 4.71% over seven days.
Crude ran with the metals. USOil gained 2.1% to $94.27 and UKOil added 2.02% to $99.32. Both are up roughly 14% on the month and about 48% on the year.
Crypto
The selling was concentrated in the alts. Polkadot dropped 10.54% to $1.112, the single biggest mover on the board, even as it holds a 25.51% weekly gain. UNIUSD fell 8.77% and LNKUSD lost 5.92%.
Dogecoin slid 3.45% to $0.0867 and Stellar shed 2.92%. Cardano fell 2.47% and BNB 2.78%.
The majors held up better. Bitcoin eased just 0.26% to $78,225.97, Ethereum slipped 0.60% to $2,469.06, and XRP fell 1.23% to $1.3987. Bitcoin remains up 23.13% on the month despite a 3.72% weekly pullback. XTZUSD bucked the trend entirely, gaining 6.22%.
Currencies and indices
Major FX was quiet. EUR/USD held at 1.1632 and GBP/USD at 1.35406, both barely changed. USD/JPY firmed 0.10% to 153.59, though the yen gained across the week β EUR/JPY is down 1.28% and CHF/JPY off 1.68% over seven days.
The commodity currencies softened against the dollar. NZD/USD fell 0.45% to 0.58317 and AUD/USD was flat at 0.72173. USD/NOK dropped 0.49% as crude firmed.
Equity indices opened broadly in the red. Europe took the brunt: the CAC 40 fell 1.38%, the DAX and IBEX each 1.29%, and the Euro Stoxx 50 1.22%. The FTSE 100 lost 1.0% and the Hang Seng 1.25%.
Wall Street held firmer. The Dow fell 0.61%, the S&P 500 0.37%, and the Nasdaq 100 just 0.16%, still up 23.28% on the year.
The split between rising hard assets and falling equities and alt-coins is the session’s clearest line.
