Two stories open the day: a scattered crypto bounce led by Polkadot, and a sharp fall in crude that dragged oil to the bottom of the board.
Crypto
Polkadot topped the tape, up 6.79% to $1.006, though it remains down 7.96% on the week even after a 34.31% monthly gain.
Uniswap added 5.42% to $6.705 and stands out on longer horizons β up 12.73% over the week and 103.64% over the month.
Stellar rose 2.85% to $0.18071 and Solana gained 1.53% to $98.24, extending a 27.67% monthly advance. The majors were quieter: Bitcoin edged up 0.55% to $75,992 and Ethereum added 0.37% to $2,404, the latter still 25.48% higher on the month.
Energy and metals
Crude led the losers. US Oil dropped 3.14% to $97.47 and UK Oil fell 2.63% to $101.88, trimming weekly losses to around 3-4% β though both hold gains above 50% over the year.
Metals softened across the board. Palladium slid 1.37% to $1,285.78 and Platinum lost 1.24% to $1,760.72. Silver fell 1.12% to $62.93 but sits 50.55% higher on the year, while Gold eased 0.49% to $4,262.74.
Currencies
The dollar firmed against the majors. EUR/USD fell 0.67% to 1.14589 and GBP/USD dropped 0.66% to 1.33801, both down more than 1% on the week.
USD/CHF climbed 0.73% to 0.82504 and USD/JPY rose 0.59% to 156.19. The Antipodeans lagged hardest β NZD/USD lost 0.68% to 0.57096 and AUD/USD fell 0.53% to 0.70865. USD/PLN gained 1.10% to 3.80413, the sharpest dollar move among the crosses.
Indices
Wall Street closed lower. The Dow fell 1.32% to 51,466 and the S&P 500 slipped 0.56% to 7,551, while the Nasdaq 100 held nearly flat, down 0.05% at 28,955.
Asia was split. The Hang Seng dropped 1.40% to 24,418, but the Nikkei 225 rose 1.10% to 64,372 and is up 43.18% on the year. European bourses firmed modestly, the DAX 40 up 0.19% to 25,498 and the Euro Stoxx 50 up 0.25% to 6,256.
With crude and the metals complex both on the back foot, energy remains the session’s weakest corner as the day begins.
