The Japanese yen was the session’s clearest force, gaining across every major cross. USD/JPY fell 1.2% to 154.33, extending a 3.66% weekly slide.

Currencies

The yen strength ran through the board. EUR/JPY dropped 1.12% to 179.35, GBP/JPY lost 1.03% to 208.94, and CHF/JPY fell 1.14% to 190.64. NZD/JPY was the steepest, down 1.35% to 90.63.

Against the dollar, majors were quieter. EUR/USD ticked up 0.07% to 1.16179 and GBP/USD added 0.13% to 1.35317, while AUD/USD firmed 0.14% to 0.72151.

The dollar softened against the commodity bloc. USD/NOK slid 0.45% to 9.25706, USD/CAD eased 0.15% to 1.38142, and USD/ZAR fell 0.27% to 15.909. USD/MXN bucked the trend, up 0.17% to 16.91.

Crypto

Polkadot topped the entire tape, surging 8.91% to 1.063 and now up 22.18% on the week. Stellar rose 2.88% and Litecoin added 1.22%.

The majors leaned lower, however. Bitcoin fell 1.39% to 79,203.82, still holding a 22.15% monthly gain. Ethereum slipped 0.85% to 2,492.46, and XRP dropped 1.77% to 1.3975.

The day’s heaviest losses sat in the alts. UNI fell 5.97% to 6.8565 despite a 71.99% monthly run, LNK dropped 3.56%, and Solana lost 2.39% to 103.93 β€” though Solana remains up 36.48% over the month. BNB shed 1.79% to 738.50.

Metals and energy

The platinum group led metals. Platinum climbed 1.16% to 1,832.16 and palladium rose 0.74% to 1,401.57, up 7.46% on the week. Silver was flat at 66.16, holding a 60.13% yearly gain, while gold eased 0.39% to 4,406.26.

Crude edged higher on both sides of the Atlantic. Brent added 0.63% to 95.39 and WTI rose 0.62% to 90.65, each up more than 14% over the past month.

Indices

Equities finished mixed and muted. The Nasdaq 100 was the lone US gainer, up 0.16% to 29,573.16, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.14% to 7,702.78 and the Dow fell 0.38% to 53,068.89.

Europe was similarly flat: the DAX lost 0.22% and the Euro Stoxx 50 was unchanged, with the CAC 40 up 0.15%. The Hang Seng was the notable weak spot, down 1.48% to 25,294.76.

The yen crosses remain the session’s dominant move, with every JPY pair down roughly 1% on the day.
