Crude oil was the session’s standout, with Brent (UKOil) climbing 3.72% to $98.64 and US crude (USOil) up 3.40% to $92.16. Both sit well above where they started the month β UKOil +15.30%, USOil +14.32% β even after ending the week lower.
That bid stood alone. Crypto, precious metals and equities all closed in the red, and the dollar firmed against most majors.
Crypto sells off
Polkadot led the declines, down 10.04% to $1.093, with Uniswap (UNIUSD) off 9.70% to $9.2365 and Dogecoin 8.08% lower at $0.0922. Tezos (XTZUSD) fell 7.66%, Stellar 6.43% to $0.20198 and Cardano 6.35% to $0.2376.
The larger tokens held up better in relative terms: Bitcoin slipped 2.06% to $84,403.93 and Ethereum 2.85% to $2,674.40, with XRP down 4.92% to $1.4946. The drop follows a strong stretch β Uniswap is still up 116.39% on the month and Tezos 50.15%.
Metals under pressure
Precious metals extended their September retreat. Platinum dropped 4.68% to $1,760.00, silver 4.39% to $64.42 and palladium 3.82% to $1,261.66. Gold fell 1.75% to $4,287.36 and is now down 7.89% over the month.
The longer view is friendlier: silver still holds a 46.67% year-on-year gain and gold 14.54%.
Dollar firm, stocks lower
The US dollar gained across the board. USDMXN rose 1.20% to 17.502, USDPLN 1.12% to 3.84158 and USDSEK 0.68% to 9.90107, while USDJPY added 0.50% to 158.24. The other side of the tape saw EURUSD fall 0.57% to 1.13816, GBPUSD 0.78% to 1.32382, AUDUSD 1.00% to 0.70397 and NZDUSD 0.89% to 0.56726.
Equities were lower across regions. The Hang Seng shed 1.67% and the Nikkei 225 1.64%, while in Europe the DAX 40 and IBEX 35 each fell 1.28%. Wall Street softened as well: the Dow Jones 30 lost 0.72% to 51,499.81, the S&P 500 0.79% to 7,706.46 and the Nasdaq 100 0.97% to 30,473.84 β though the Nasdaq still carries a 3.63% weekly gain.
Crude was the tape’s one clear bid; the crypto complex remains the session’s weakest corner.
