Energy and metals split the session cleanly. USOil surged 4.62% to $89.47 and UKOil added 4.43% to $94.11, while the precious complex sold off hard and equities closed broadly lower.

Commodities and metals

Crude was the day’s standout. USOil is up 9.95% on the week and 13.31% on the month, with UKOil tracking closely at +9.12% and +13.94% respectively. Both barrels sit around 36% higher on the year.

Metals moved the other way. Palladium dropped 4.76% to $1,304.28, the day’s biggest loser across all covered assets. Silver fell 3.77% to $64.08, platinum shed 2.90% to $1,742.98, and gold slipped 2.79% to $4,328.37.

The pullbacks dented recent runs without erasing them. Silver is still up 56.82% on the year and 10.01% on the month, while gold holds a 22.62% annual gain despite a 6.39% weekly decline.

Indices

Stocks were red across the board. The Nasdaq 100 led losses at -1.26% to 29,078.75, with the S&P 500 down 0.74% to 7,635.71 and the Dow off 0.81% to 52,783.28.

Europe fared no better. The DAX 40 dropped 1.49% to 25,824.86 and the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.04% to 6,341.58. The Nikkei 225 lost 1.46% to 64,842.25, though it remains up 54.11% on the year. The FTSE 100 eased 0.65% to 10,750.27.

Currencies

The dollar firmed against most majors. USDCAD rose 0.34% to 1.38989 and USDCHF gained 0.34% to 0.81099, while USDJPY added 0.28% to 160.19.

The commodity currencies lagged. NZDUSD fell 0.52% to 0.58895 and AUDUSD dropped 0.33% to 0.71459. EURUSD slipped 0.26% to 1.15874 and GBPUSD matched that at -0.26% to 1.35126.

Crypto

Majors leaned lower. Solana fell 3.60% to $99.25 despite a 35.14% monthly gain, XRP dropped 2.55% to $1.3435, and Ethereum lost 2.21% to $2,412.26. Bitcoin eased 1.83% to $77,106.91, still up 21.52% on the month.

UNI was the exception and the day’s largest gainer, jumping 11.80% to $5.844 and extending its weekly advance to 33.39%.

The precious metals complex remains the session’s clear weak spot, with palladium, silver, platinum and gold all among the biggest losers on the board.
