Crude buckled into the New York close while precious metals firmed, splitting the commodity complex. US crude USOil fell 4.03% to 88.06 and UKOil dropped 2.95% to 95.25 β the session’s clearest one-way move.
Energy and Metals
The slide extended a weekly loss of 3.79% in USOil and 3.44% in UKOil, though both still carry outsized year gains β USOil +41.17%, UKOil +44.19%.
Precious metals ran the other way. Gold XAUUSD added 1.3% to 4180.99 and silver XAGUSD rose 1.08% to 61.45, the day’s two biggest gainers alongside palladium XPDUSD, up 1.09% to 1233.87. Platinum XPTUSD lagged, down 0.65% to 1713.80.
The bounce dents but does not erase a soft month: gold is still down 6.1% over 30 days and silver down 7.72%, even as silver holds a 31.58% year gain.
Currencies
The dollar firmed broadly. USDCHF rose 0.19% to 0.83332 and USDNOK gained 0.44% to 9.57705, while EURUSD eased 0.27% to 1.13396 and GBPUSD slipped 0.20% to 1.32261.
The commodity currencies took the brunt: AUDUSD fell 0.39% to 0.69868 and NZDUSD dropped 0.43% to 0.56371, the latter now down 4.79% on the month. USDJPY sat flat at 157.32.
Crypto
Altcoins led the decliners. LNKUSD sank 5.22% to 14.628 and Stellar XLMUSD lost 4.01% to 0.2226, with GRTUSD off 3.63% to 0.0292 and Litecoin down 3.01% to 67.09.
The pullbacks came off strong runs β LNKUSD is still up 18.5% on the week and GRTUSD up 80.25% on the month. Bitcoin held steadier, down 0.11% to 83375.42, with Ethereum off 0.36% to 2677.69.
Equities
Wall Street closed mixed and quiet: the S&P 500 eased 0.11% to 7678.20 and the Dow lost 0.14%, while the Nasdaq 100 edged up 0.26% to 30377.03. Europe was heavier, with the IBEX 35 down 1.21% and the CAC 40 off 1.01%. The Nikkei 225 stood out, up 1.08% to 66116.73 and 47.65% higher on the year.
Crude remains the session’s weak spot, down roughly 4% on the day against a firmer metals complex.
