Hard assets caught a firm bid as London closed. Platinum jumped 4.27% to $1,903.38, oil pushed above key round numbers, and silver added 2.51% β€” all while European equity benchmarks slid across the board.

Metals and energy

Platinum led the day’s gainers, up 4.27% and now 8.86% higher on the month. Silver rose 2.51% to $67.22, extending a year-long run that stands at 63.19%. Gold added 1.15% to $4,399.75, trimming its weekly loss to 1.79%.

Crude was the other standout. USOil climbed 2.10% to $94.27 and UKOil rose 2.02% to $99.32, leaving both up more than 4.8% on the week and roughly 14% on the month. Over twelve months both grades are up close to 48%.

European indices

Equities moved the other way. The CAC 40 fell 1.38% to 8,149.87, with the DAX 40 and IBEX 35 both down 1.29% at 25,526.87 and 19,681.95 respectively. The Euro Stoxx 50 dropped 1.22% to 6,298.88 and the FTSE 100 shed 1.00% to 10,647.41.

Wall Street held up better into the European close: the Dow was off 0.61%, the S&P 500 down 0.37% and the Nasdaq 100 nearly flat at -0.16%. The CAC’s monthly decline of 6.41% is the deepest among the majors, though the IBEX still carries a 29.35% yearly gain.

Currencies

FX was quiet by comparison. EURUSD sat at 1.1632, barely changed on the day, while GBPUSD held 1.35406. The dollar softened against the Nordics, with USDNOK down 0.49% to 9.17048, tracking firmer crude. The kiwi was the weakest major, NZDUSD off 0.45% to 0.58317 and NZDJPY down 0.40%.

Crypto

Digital assets were mixed but skewed lower. Polkadot slumped 10.54% to $1.112 and Uniswap dropped 8.77%, though both remain sharply higher on the month at 41.12% and 64.19%. Dogecoin fell 3.45% and Cardano lost 2.47%. Bitcoin was more resilient, down just 0.26% to $78,225.97, holding a 23.13% monthly gain. Tezos bucked the trend entirely, up 6.22%.

Into the New York afternoon, the split holds: commodities and precious metals are the session’s strength, European equities its clear weak spot.
