Precious metals led the board into the London close, with gold up 1.3% to $4,180.99 and silver up 1.08% to $61.45, while crude sold off hard and Europe’s bourses finished in the red.

Metals

Gold topped the day’s gainers at $4,180.99, a 1.3% session move that pares little of a rough stretch β€” the metal is still down 2.51% on the week and 6.10% on the month, though it holds an 8.23% gain on the year.

Silver matched the tone, adding 1.08% to $61.45 even as it sits 4.42% lower on the week and 7.72% off over the month; its 31.58% year gain remains the standout across the metals. Palladium rose 1.09% to $1,233.87 but carries the group’s heaviest monthly drop at -9.90%. Platinum broke ranks, slipping 0.65% to $1,713.80.

Energy

Crude was the session’s clear weak spot. USOil fell 4.03% to $88.06 and UKOil dropped 2.95% to $95.25, extending weekly declines of 3.79% and 3.44%. Both still hold outsized year gains β€” 41.17% and 44.19% respectively β€” so the slide comes off an elevated base, with month figures still positive at +2.98% and +5.70%.

Equities

European indices closed broadly lower. The IBEX 35 led the declines, down 1.21% to 19,474.13, followed by the CAC 40 off 1.01% at 8,045.93 and the FTSE 100 down 0.63% at 10,657.90. The DAX 40 (-0.22%) and Euro Stoxx 50 (-0.15%) held up better.

Asia split the other way overnight: the Nikkei 225 rose 1.08% to 66,116.73 and now sits 47.65% higher on the year, while the Hang Seng fell 1.16% to 24,386.36. Wall Street was mixed as London closed, the Nasdaq 100 up 0.26% against a 0.11% dip in the S&P 500 and a 0.14% slip in the Dow.

Currencies and Crypto

The dollar firmed at the margins. EUR/USD eased 0.27% to 1.13396 and GBP/USD slipped 0.20% to 1.32261, while the oil-sensitive Norwegian krone lagged β€” USD/NOK climbed 0.44% to 9.57705. USD/MXN added 0.32% to 18.027, up 2.78% on the week.

Crypto filled out the day’s losers list. LNKUSD dropped 5.22% to 14.628, Stellar fell 4.01% to $0.2226, GRTUSD lost 3.63% and Litecoin slid 3.01% to $67.09. The majors were steadier, Bitcoin off 0.11% at $83,375.42 and Ethereum down 0.36% at $2,677.69. The monthly picture stays green β€” GRTUSD up 80.25% and UNIUSD up 69.94% over 30 days.

Into the New York handover, crude remains the session’s weak spot while precious metals hold the top of the board.
