Two moves dominated the European session: crude oil pushing higher and crypto selling off hard. USOil rose 2.9% to 100.89 and Brent-linked UKOil added 1.8% to 104.63, topping the day’s gainers.
Energy and metals
Crude extended a strong run. USOil is up 6.81% on the week and 20.03% over the month, now 56.81% higher on the year. UKOil carries a 53.39% year gain.
Precious metals firmed but stayed off recent highs. Palladium rose 1.59% to 1,303.70 and platinum gained 1.28% to 1,785.52, though both remain down on the week (-3.84% and -6.19%). Gold edged up 0.12% to 4,293.35 and silver added 0.83% to 63.65, leaving gold 2.29% lower on the week and silver 5.27% lower.
Crypto
The crypto board was uniformly red. XRP led losses down 9.75% to 1.2834, with XTZ off 9.61% and Stellar down 8.31% to 0.17537.
The majors followed. Bitcoin fell 3.26% to 75,613.93 and Ethereum lost 4.72% to 2,395.88. Cardano dropped 6.2% and Solana 5.57%.
Despite the session slide, the monthly picture stays green: Ethereum is up 25.33% over the month, XRP 28.12% and Solana 27.5%. On a yearly basis the damage is heavy, with Cardano down 77.83% and GRT off 82.01%.
Currencies and indices
The dollar held a firm tone. USDJPY rose 0.45% to 155.10 and is up 1.02% on the week, while EURUSD slipped 0.12% to 1.15334 and GBPUSD eased 0.22% to 1.34687. The kiwi was the softest major, NZDUSD down 0.51% to 0.57473 and off 1.64% on the week.
European equities drifted lower. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell 0.51% to 6,240.68 and the CAC 40 dropped 0.45% to 8,099.43, now 5.56% lower on the month. The DAX 40 slipped 0.23% to 25,443.58 and the IBEX 35 eased 0.15%, though the Spanish index remains 29.14% higher on the year. The FTSE 100 was near flat at 10,683.36.
Wall Street opened softer, with the Nasdaq 100 down 0.6% to 28,970.75 and the S&P 500 off 0.43%. The Nikkei 225 bucked the trend, closing 0.92% higher at 63,639.42 and holding a 42.11% yearly gain.
Into the close, energy remains the session’s strongest corner and crypto its weakest.
