Crude was the standout of the London session. UKOil climbed 3.72% to 98.64 and USOil rose 3.40% to 92.16, the day’s two biggest gainers, while crypto and precious metals filled out the losers’ list.

Energy leads, metals sink

Both crude benchmarks are now well into the green over a month β€” UKOil up 15.30% and USOil 14.32% β€” even as the past week stays negative at -1.83% and -4.45% respectively. On the year both hold gains north of 42%.

Precious metals moved the other way. Platinum fell 4.68% to 1,760.00 and Silver dropped 4.39% to 64.42, the sharpest declines in the complex. Palladium lost 3.82% to 1,261.66 and Gold eased 1.75% to 4,287.36. The month has been heavy across the group: Gold is down 7.89% and Silver 6.27%, though Silver still carries a 46.67% year gain.

Crypto sells off broadly

Digital assets dominated the downside. Polkadot led all losers at -10.04% to 1.093, with UNIUSD off 9.70% to 9.2365 and Dogecoin down 8.08% to 0.0922. XTZUSD fell 7.66% to 0.2967 and XLMUSD 6.43% to 0.20198.

The majors were dragged along. Bitcoin slipped 2.06% to 84,403.93, Ethereum lost 2.85% to 2,674.40 and Solana 3.56% to 114.25. The longer view is less grim β€” UNIUSD is still up 116.39% on the month and XTZUSD 50.15%, while Bitcoin holds a 10.55% weekly gain.

Dollar firm, stocks lower

The dollar was broadly bid. USDMXN rose 1.20% to 17.502 and USDPLN 1.12% to 3.84158, both among the day’s biggest gainers, while EURUSD fell 0.57% to 1.13816 and GBPUSD 0.78% to 1.32382. USDJPY added 0.50% to 158.24, and the commodity currencies lagged, with AUDUSD down 1.00% to 0.70397 and NZDUSD 0.89% to 0.56726.

European equities closed lower. The DAX 40 and IBEX 35 each shed 1.28%, to 25,354.68 and 19,575.63, the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 0.99% to 6,291.08 and the FTSE 100 0.59% to 10,683.89. Asia had set the tone, with the Hang Seng down 1.67% to 24,707.16 and the Nikkei 225 off 1.64% to 66,115.30, the latter still up 44.89% on the year. The Nasdaq 100 pointed lower too, down 0.97% at 30,473.84.

Crude remains the session’s clear outperformer, with the crypto complex the standout weak spot.
