Australia’s Employment Change lands Thursday at 01:30 UTC, and it is the session’s marquee data point for the Australian dollar β a fresh, timely read on how the country’s labour market is holding up.
What the Employment Change report measures
Employment Change, published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, tracks the net month-on-month shift in the number of people in work. Markets watch it closely because jobs growth is one of the clearest signals of economic momentum and a key input the Reserve Bank of Australia weighs alongside inflation.
The forecast points to a gain of 22.5K jobs, a notable swing from the previous reading of -15.8K, which showed a contraction. Because the series can be volatile from month to month, the distance between the forecast and the released figure is what typically shapes the immediate reaction across AUD crosses.
How the AUD pairs are trading
On our feed, AUDNZD is the biggest mover, down 0.41% at 1.24138, followed by AUDSGD off 0.32% at 0.90528 and AUDCHF lower by 0.29% at 0.58254 β each showing the Aussie easing against those crosses. AUDJPY sits at 111.81, down 0.18%.
In the pairs where the Australian dollar is quoted second, GBPAUD has slipped 0.19% to 1.87438 and EURAUD is down 0.14% at 1.6081, marking a firmer Aussie against sterling and the euro.
The employment figure is watched as a gauge of how much slack remains in Australia’s jobs market and how that sits within the RBA’s broader policy backdrop.
