The Reserve Bank of Australia’s Cash Rate decision and Rate Statement landed at 04:30 UTC on 29 September 2026, and the Australian dollar firmed broadly in the minutes that followed. The clearest move came against the New Zealand dollar, with AUDNZD up 0.21%.
Where the Australian dollar moved
AUDNZD led the reaction, rising from 1.23769 to 1.24028, a 0.21% gain and the largest of the set.
Against the yen, AUDJPY added 0.168%, moving from 110.34 to 110.53. AUDCHF followed with a 0.125% rise, from 0.58382 to 0.58455.
The story was the same across the majors. EURAUD slipped 0.113%, easing from 1.62114 to 1.61931 β a lower cross reflecting a firmer Aussie. AUDUSD gained 0.113%, ticking up from 0.70085 to 0.70164, while AUDCAD rose 0.10%, from 0.99432 to 0.99531.
What the reaction shows
The move was uniform rather than dramatic. Every AUD pair shifted in the same direction β the Australian dollar higher β but each by only a fraction of a percent, and the spread from the biggest mover (AUDNZD, 0.21%) to the smallest (AUDCAD, 0.10%) was narrow.
The reaction concentrated on the antipodean cross, where AUDNZD posted roughly double the move seen in AUDCAD. Elsewhere the response was modest and evenly distributed, with the yen and franc crosses sitting between the two.
Taken together, this was a contained, one-directional reaction across the Aussie complex rather than a sharp repricing in any single pair.
