The coming week is bookended by two US inflation and central-bank flashpoints: core PCE and prelim GDP midweek, then a Friday cluster that includes the Jackson Hole Symposium and a benchmark payrolls revision. Australian and Canadian data round out the schedule.
Wednesday β Australian CPI, US PCE and GDP
The week opens at 01:30 UTC with Australia’s inflation report. Headline CPI m/m is seen at 0.9%, a sharp turn from the previous -0.1%, while CPI y/y is forecast to cool to 3.3% from 3.8%. The RBA-favored Trimmed Mean CPI m/m is expected to hold steady at 0.3%. The AUD is the direct focus given the split between a hotter monthly headline and a softer annual print.
At 12:30 UTC attention shifts to the US. The Core PCE Price Index m/m, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, is forecast at 0.2% versus 0.1% prior. Released alongside it, Prelim GDP q/q is seen unchanged at 1.5%. Both feed directly into the dollar and US index pricing, and the pairing of firmer inflation with steady growth makes this the midweek centerpiece.
Friday β Canadian GDP and a US triple-header
Canada’s GDP m/m lands at 12:30 UTC, forecast at 0.2% after 0.3% previously. It is the week’s main CAD driver, with the pace of monthly growth the key line.
The US then delivers three high-impact items in quick succession. At 14:00 UTC, Fed Chairman Warsh Speaks β any commentary carries weight for the dollar and rate-sensitive assets. Simultaneously, the Prelim Benchmark Payrolls Revision is due; the prior revision came in at -911K, and the scale of any adjustment to past employment counts speaks directly to how the labor market is being read.
Capping the week, the Jackson Hole Symposium begins at 16:15 UTC. Flagged as an all-currency, high-impact event, the gathering of central bankers historically draws close attention across FX, metals, and indices for signals on the policy path.
What to watch
The Friday US block β Warsh, the payrolls revision, and Jackson Hole all clustered into a two-hour window β is the session with the most concentrated event risk. Wednesday’s core PCE and GDP double-header sets the tone for the dollar heading into it, while Australian CPI and Canadian GDP frame the AUD and CAD around the edges of a US-dominated week.
