Energy and metals set the tone into the new session. USOil rose 4.47% to 81.48 and UKOil added 4.21% to 86.62, the day’s two biggest movers. Both are up around 10% on the week.
Crypto sits on the other side of the ledger, with Ethereum and Bitcoin among the largest decliners.
Commodities and metals
Crude leads. USOil is up 9.8% on the month and 28.3% on the year at 81.48; UKOil is up 30.38% year-on-year at 86.62.
Silver extended its run, gaining 3.46% to 65.71 and now 10.59% higher on the week and 74.4% over twelve months. Gold added 1.29% to 4,389.22, up 7.78% on the week and 31.07% on the year.
Platinum rose 0.77% to 1,755.15 and palladium 1.19% to 1,387.01, keeping the metals complex broadly firm.
Crypto
The majors softened. Ethereum fell 1.78% to 1,874.83 and Bitcoin dropped 1.21% to 64,052.13, though both hold small weekly gains. XRP slipped 0.82% to 1.02 and is down 4.88% on the week.
Cardano eased 0.57% to 0.1929 but remains 19.44% higher on the month. Solana bucked the drift, up 0.24% to 76.33 and 3.64% on the week, while Dogecoin edged up 0.58% to 0.0695. Smaller tokens took the heaviest hits, with XTZ down 2.5% and GRT off 2.1%.
Currencies
The yen was the standout weak spot. USD/JPY climbed 0.84% to 159.22, GBP/JPY rose 0.99% to 215.08 and CAD/JPY gained 0.95% to 114.24, with the Canadian dollar buoyed by the crude move. EUR/JPY added 0.74% to 183.80.
Elsewhere the dollar was quiet. EUR/USD dipped 0.13% to 1.15378 and GBP/USD firmed 0.13% to 1.35026. USD/CAD eased 0.11% to 1.39361, down 1.6% on the month. USD/ZAR fell 0.11% to 16.135 and is 1.48% lower on the week.
Indices
Stocks were mixed and muted. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.73% to 66,648.30, up 57.87% on the year, and the Hang Seng gained 0.56% to 25,957.36. In Europe the DAX 40 was flat at 26,337.34 and the FTSE 100 slipped 0.24% to 10,856.84.
Wall Street benchmarks barely moved: the S&P 500 added 0.13% to 7,753.06 while the Nasdaq 100 lost 0.23% to 29,647.73.
The yen crosses and the crude complex remain the session’s clearest movers into the open.
