The tape opens quiet, with the day’s real story sitting in the longer-horizon numbers rather than the overnight session. The Nikkei 225 added 0.41% to 68,952.98 and is up 58.67% on the year β€” comfortably the strongest 12-month run in the index set.

Indices

Japan aside, moves were small. The Nasdaq 100 firmed 0.25% to 30,120.14, up 1.79% on the week and 26.77% on the year. The S&P 500 rose 0.14% to 7,791.62, and the Dow added 0.08% to 53,744.95.

Europe was mixed. The DAX 40 nudged up 0.14% to 26,484.46 but the IBEX 35 fell 0.40% to 20,118.93 β€” still 31.71% higher over the year, the widest annual gain among European benchmarks. The Euro Stoxx 50 slipped 0.29% and the CAC 40 lost 0.27%, the latter down 0.99% on the week.

The Hang Seng edged up 0.12% to 25,276.16 but remains 2.62% lower over the week, the weakest five-day print in the group.

Crypto

The softness sits here. Among the smaller tokens, XTZ fell 1.80% and GRT dropped 1.50%, both extending steep monthly slides of 15.20% and 22.02%. Stellar lost 0.61% to 0.15666 and is down 16.39% on the month.

The majors held flatter. Bitcoin eased 0.11% to 62,946.63, down 2.84% on the month and 46.42% on the year. Ethereum slipped 0.14% to 1,877.73 but is marginally positive over both the week and month. BNB was the notable large-cap decliner, off 0.52% to 603.41. Dogecoin bucked the tone with a 0.29% gain to 0.0695.

FX and metals

Currencies barely moved. EUR/USD held at 1.15624 and GBP/USD at 1.35327, both little changed on the day. USD/JPY sat at 159.34, down 1.88% on the month. The dollar was softest against emerging-market names: USD/MXN fell 0.31% to 16.966 and USD/ZAR dropped 0.27% to 16.13, extending monthly declines of 3.21% and 1.89%.

Among the crosses, NOK/SEK was the FX laggard, down 0.86% to 0.99845.

Metals stayed elevated. Gold slipped 0.12% to 4,370.47 but holds an 8.76% monthly gain. Silver rose 0.24% to 64.82 and remains up 71.25% on the year β€” the largest annual move in the metals complex. Palladium led the day at plus 0.70% to 1,324.30, while platinum added 0.22% to 1,755.55.

Crude was flat, with Brent at 86.89 and WTI at 81.54, both up 0.31% on the week.

With session moves compressed, the smaller crypto tokens remain the clear weak spot into the new week.
