The Nikkei 225 opened the day as the standout, up 1.88% to 68,483 and now 4.04% higher on the week. That leaves the index up 59.01% over the past year, comfortably ahead of any other index in the set.

Gold and silver followed close behind, each gaining 0.83%, while crypto stayed on the back foot.

Indices

Japan’s advance was the clear leader. Elsewhere Wall Street’s tone was mixed: the Nasdaq 100 added 0.5% to 29,702 and the S&P 500 rose 0.14% to 7,744.80, while the Dow slipped 0.06%.

Europe was quiet. The DAX 40 eased 0.14% to 26,356 and the CAC 40 fell 0.25%, though both hold monthly gains above 4%. The IBEX 35 sits 34.64% higher on the year at 20,212.

Asia diverged from Tokyo: the Hang Seng dropped 0.85% to 25,341, down 1.62% over twelve months.

Metals

Gold rose 0.83% to 4,407.58, extending its weekly gain to 3.65% and monthly to 8.74%. Silver matched the daily move at 65.29 but with more momentum behind it β€” up 5.93% on the week, 11.08% on the month and 69.49% over the year.

Platinum added 0.41% to 1,755.68, holding a 7.38% monthly gain. Both oil grades edged lower on the session, with USOil off 0.73% to 81.73 and UKOil down 0.59% to 86.96, though each remains up nearly 6% on the week.

Crypto

The losers’ board was all crypto. Cardano fell 3.22% to 0.1806 and is down 9.97% on the week, Dogecoin lost 3.21% to 0.0693, and XRP slipped 1.74% to 1.0035.

The majors held up better. Bitcoin dipped just 0.26% to 63,364 and Ethereum eased 0.32% to 1,874.51. Solana bucked the trend across the week, up 3.91% despite a 1.01% daily drop, while BNB held above 607 with a 2.82% weekly gain.

Currencies

FX was subdued. The dollar firmed against the krona, with USDSEK up 0.55% to 9.5706, and gained 0.26% on the franc. EURUSD slipped 0.20% to 1.15197 and GBPUSD eased 0.13% to 1.34908.

The rand was the standout mover, with USDZAR down 0.61% to 16.08 and off 1.58% on the week. USDJPY held near 159.41.

The crypto board remains the session’s clear soft spot heading into the day.
