Equities open the day with tech in front and precious metals on the back foot. The Nasdaq 100 led the covered names higher at +1.37% to 30,105.43, while palladium and platinum anchored the losers.

Indices

The Nasdaq 100 stands 26.56% higher on the year and 1.32% up on the week. The S&P 500 added 0.72% to 7,802.66, keeping a 20.64% year-on-year gain.

Japan was the standout in Asia, with the Nikkei 225 up 1.12% to 69,108.37 and 4.31% higher over the week β€” a 61.55% advance across twelve months.

Europe was mixed and muted. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose 0.24% and the DAX 40 edged up 0.15% to 26,404.87, while the CAC 40 slipped 0.30% and the FTSE 100 eased 0.23%. The Hang Seng lagged at -0.38%, down 2.20% on the week.

Metals and energy

The metals complex was the session’s clear weak spot. Palladium dropped 4.17% to 1,313.04 and platinum fell 2.31% to 1,716.78.

Gold slid 1.46% to 4,349.69 but holds a 7.19% monthly gain and is 30.40% higher on the year. Silver lost 1.32% to 64.42, still up 11.53% over the month and 69.53% across twelve months.

Crude also pulled back. USOil fell 1.59% to 80.44 and UKOil dropped 1.57% to 85.59, though both remain up more than 5% on the week and roughly 27-29% higher year-on-year.

Currencies

The majors were nearly still. EURUSD held at 1.15262, effectively flat, and GBPUSD eased 0.09% to 1.34845. USDJPY firmed 0.09% to 159.47, up 1.06% on the week.

The yen was the softer side of most crosses: GBPJPY sits at 215.11 and EURJPY at 183.84. The Swedish and Norwegian krona saw the day’s sharper FX moves, with USDSEK down 0.24% and NOKSEK off 0.49%. USDMXN fell 0.23% to 17.017, extending a 9.47% yearly decline in the dollar against the peso.

Crypto

Major coins were quiet. Bitcoin was flat at 63,391.39, down 2.29% on the week, while Ethereum added 0.50% to 1,886.56. Solana rose 0.74% to 76.06 and XRP ticked up 0.27% to 1.0066.

The damage sat in the smaller names: Bitcoin Cash fell 3.30% to 205.34 and Cardano remains 80.40% lower on the year at 0.1816.

The precious-metals pullback remains the session’s dominant theme against a firmer US tech tape.
