Two stories bookend the tape this morning: crude is the day’s clear casualty, while crypto is where the green sits.
Brent (UKOil) fell 6.71% to 83.00 and WTI (USOil) dropped 6.58% to 79.46 β the largest single-session moves anywhere in the data. Both still hold monthly gains (+4.01% and +5.80%) and remain sharply higher on the year, so the slide is a session-level shock against a firmer longer-term backdrop.
Crypto
Cardano topped the board, up 8.45% to 0.1887 and now 16.84% higher on both the week and month. That stands out against a market that is mostly bouncing in low single digits.
Bitcoin Cash added 2.84% to 213.62 and BNB rose 2.56% to 588.67. Bitcoin itself gained a more modest 1.18% to 63,491, while Ethereum climbed 2.27% to 1,884.59. The bounce is broad but shallow β most majors remain deep in the red year-on-year.
Currencies
The dollar sits softer. EUR/USD firmed 0.13% to 1.15444, up 1.55% on the week, and GBP/USD held at 1.34867 after a 1.49% weekly climb.
USD/JPY eased 0.09% to 157.50 but is down 3.83% over the week, the standout yen-strength theme across the crosses β CHF/JPY, CAD/JPY and SGD/JPY are all off more than 2.4% on the week. USD/ZAR led the majors lower, down 0.51% to 16.433.
Indices & Metals
Wall Street closed firm: the Nasdaq 100 rose 1.13% to 28,493 and the S&P 500 added 0.65% to 7,523. The Nikkei jumped 1.46%, while Hang Seng slipped 0.40%.
Gold held at 4,074.88 (+0.77%) and silver rose 1.27% to 58.31.
Energy remains the session’s weak spot β both crude benchmarks are the moves everything else is measured against this morning.
