The United Kingdom’s CPI y/y release landed at 06:00 UTC on 19 August 2026, and the pound’s response across major crosses was subdued. The largest move came in GBPUSD, which edged up just 0.06% in the first 30 minutes.
Where the GBP moved
GBPUSD led the reaction, rising from 1.3544 to 1.35518, a gain of about 0.06%.
GBPSEK moved in the opposite direction, slipping from 12.9060 to 12.9025, down roughly 0.03%.
GBPSGD firmed modestly, ticking up from 1.72948 to 1.72992, a gain of about 0.03%.
The remaining crosses barely budged. GBPNOK nudged higher from 12.7379 to 12.7392 (+0.01%), while GBPNZD (2.30696 to 2.30702) and GBPAUD (1.91588 to 1.91592) were effectively flat, each moving under 0.01%.
What the reaction shows
The response was muted overall, with no cross moving more than a tenth of a percent in the half hour after the print. What little direction there was concentrated in GBPUSD on the upside and GBPSEK on the downside.
The near-flat readings in GBPNZD and GBPAUD suggest the release did little to shift sterling against the antipodean currencies. Taken together, the small and mixed moves point to a contained reaction rather than a decisive repricing.
