The precious complex split the tape wide open. Platinum-group metals ripped higher, US equities extended their run, and crude oil took a heavy hit.
Metals
Palladium was the standout, up 6.71% to 1,351.27. Platinum wasn’t far behind at 1,740.16, a gain of 6.5% that lifts it 7.32% on the week and 6.61% on the month.
Silver added 2.18% to 59.52. Gold was quieter, up 0.6% to 4,077.84 but still down 1.02% over the month.
Energy
The other side of the ledger belonged to oil. US crude fell 5.77% to 74.40 and Brent dropped 5.35% to 78.18. Both are now down more than 10% on the week, though each remains up around 25% year-on-year.
Equities
US indices closed firmly higher. The Nasdaq 100 led with a 2.9% gain to 29,691.70, capping an 8.44% weekly advance. The S&P 500 rose 1.82% and the Dow added 1.81% to 54,229.55.
Europe had already finished strong β the DAX up 1.03% and the Euro Stoxx 50 up 1.02%. Overnight, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.01%.
Currencies
The dollar was mixed and generally soft against the commodity bloc. USD/ZAR fell 1.15% and the Aussie gained 0.64% against the greenback to 0.70406. USD/SEK and USD/PLN each shed more than half a percent.
The yen stayed on the back foot longer-term, with USD/JPY at 157.72, though it barely moved on the session. EUR/USD ticked up 0.16% to 1.1525.
Crypto
Bitcoin firmed 1.16% to 64,190.65 and Polkadot rose 2.43%. The weak spots were smaller tokens β Tezos fell 2.32% and Uniswap dropped 1.43%, now down 13.07% on the week.
The day’s clearest divergence remains PGMs sharply bid against crude’s steep slide.
