Energy and crypto took the session’s damage while equity indices ground higher. Brent (UKOil) fell 5.12% to 85.55 and WTI (USOil) lost 4.85% to 80.65, both erasing most of the week β€” down 4.81% and 4.19% respectively.

Energy and crypto

Crude led the losers alongside a broad crypto pullback. Cardano was the day’s weakest name, down 5.66% to 0.2084, followed by Stellar at -5.08% and Polkadot at -4.90%.

The majors joined in: Bitcoin eased 0.68% to 78,436.9, Ethereum fell 1.94% to 2,433.36, XRP dropped 3.22% to 1.4333 and Solana shed 2.25% to 96.68. Dogecoin lost 4.34%.

The daily red masks a strong month β€” Cardano still holds a 34.45% monthly gain, XRP is up 34.67% and Solana 30.49%, so the session was a pullback within a broader run. The lone gainer of note was MATUSD, up 4.51% and 55.23% on the week.

Equities

Stocks moved the other way. The Nikkei 225 climbed 1.39% to 66,050.28, extending a 55.47% year-on-year advance. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.67% to 29,212.11 despite still sitting 1.10% lower on the week.

Europe was firmer: the DAX 40 added 0.59% to 26,271.33 and the FTSE 100 gained 0.41% to 10,896.61. The S&P 500 closed up 0.28% at 7,675.89 and the Dow rose 0.26%. The CAC 40 (-0.21%) and IBEX 35 (-0.16%) were the modest exceptions.

Currencies and metals

FX was quiet by comparison. The dollar softened against the rand, with USDZAR down 0.86% to 15.864 and off 5.43% on the month. USDSEK fell 0.53% and NOKSEK dropped 0.77%. EURUSD held at 1.16721 and GBPUSD at 1.36473, both little changed on the day but up more than 2.5% over the month.

USDJPY sat at 159.20, up just 0.04% but still 2.79% lower on the month. The Mexican peso firmed, with USDMXN down 0.11% to 16.924.

Metals eased alongside the risk names. Gold slipped 0.45% to 4,659.16 but retains a 14.38% monthly gain, while silver fell 1.40% to 68.72, up 77.81% on the year. Platinum lost 1.90% and palladium 2.24%.

Crude and the crypto complex remain the session’s clear weak spots against a firmer equity tape.
