Oil dominated the tape. Both crude benchmarks shed roughly two-thirds of a percentage point of value with a single-session drop near 7%, the clear standout among the day’s losers.

Energy

US crude fell 6.58% to $79.46, while Brent dropped 6.71% to $83.00. The moves erased the past week (WTI down 2.24%, Brent down 2.28%) but left both still firmly higher on the year β€” USOil up 36.86% and UKOil up 26.03%.

Crypto

The risk tone in digital assets ran the other way. Cardano led all instruments, up 8.45% to $0.1887 and now 16.84% higher on both the week and the month, though still down 53.77% year-on-year.

The rest of the complex followed higher. Bitcoin Cash added 2.84%, BNB rose 2.56% to $588.67, and Ether gained 2.27% to $1,884.59. Bitcoin was more measured, up 1.18% to $63,491.

Equities and Metals

US benchmarks closed firmer. The Nasdaq 100 led with a 1.13% gain to 28,493, the S&P 500 rose 0.65% to 7,523, and the Dow added 0.60%. The Nikkei 225 had already jumped 1.46% to 63,710.

The Hang Seng was the exception, slipping 0.40%, though it remains up 12.34% on the month.

Metals firmed alongside. Gold added 0.77% to $4,074.88, silver rose 1.27% to $58.31, and platinum gained 0.93% to $1,665.21.

Currencies

FX was quiet by comparison. The dollar edged lower against most majors, with the rand the standout as USDZAR fell 0.51% to 16.433. EURUSD firmed 0.13% to 1.15444 and GBPUSD held at 1.34867. USDJPY eased 0.09% to 157.50, extending a 3.83% weekly slide in the yen’s favour.

The energy complex remains the session’s clear weak spot, standing apart from broad-based gains elsewhere.
