Energy set the pace into the New York close. WTI (USOil) rose 3.19% to $84.12 and Brent (UKOil) gained 3.02% to $89.49, both extending week gains of just over 2% and sitting roughly 34-35% higher on the year.

Equities went the other way, with US and European benchmarks all finishing in the red.

Indices

The S&P 500 fell 0.60% to 7,744.88, the Dow Jones 30 dropped 0.55% to 53,448.44, and the Nasdaq 100 eased 0.46% to 29,980.98. Despite the down session, the Nasdaq 100 holds a 1.45% weekly gain and is up 26.41% on the year.

Europe was the softer bloc. The IBEX 35 lost 0.71% to 19,976.08, the CAC 40 slid 0.70% to 8,576.49, and the DAX 40 shed 0.68% to 26,301.16. The CAC is down 1.51% on the week.

Asia offered a mixed reference: the Hang Seng added 0.39% to 25,374.06 while the Nikkei 225 was flat but remains 57.32% higher over the year.

Crypto

Bitcoin rebounded 2.29% to $64,269.16, trimming its year-to-date deficit but still down 44.74% over 12 months. Ethereum rose 1.68% to $1,905.08 and Solana added 1.79% to $75.82.

XRP gained 0.98% to $1.0016 and Dogecoin rose 1.15% to $0.0701, though both remain lower on the month. BNB edged up 0.39% to $604.13. Cardano lagged, off 0.57% to $0.1734 and down 7.07% on the week.

Metals

Precious metals firmed alongside crude. Gold climbed 1.06% to $4,416.53, up 10.55% on the month and 32.59% on the year. Silver rose 1.47% to $65.75, extending a 17.65% monthly advance and a 72.80% yearly gain. Platinum added 1.25% to $1,775.92.

Currencies

The dollar was mixed and moves were small. EUR/USD held at 1.15753, little changed on the day, while GBP/USD slipped 0.04% to 1.35381. USD/JPY ticked up 0.10% to 159.38.

The commodity currencies leaned firmer, with AUD/USD up 0.28% to 0.71033 and NZD/USD adding 0.16% to 0.58964. USD/NOK fell 0.36% to 9.40553, in step with the oil bid, and is down 2.48% on the month.

European equities remain the session’s clear soft spot, while crude and precious metals carried the day’s momentum.
