Crude was the standout in New York. Brent (UKOil) rose 2.25% to $83.14 and WTI (USOil) added 2.14% to $78.02, the two strongest moves among covered instruments on the day.

Energy and metals

Both oil grades now sit well above where they started the month, with Brent up 8.66% and WTI up 8.32% over 30 days. WTI remains 1.19% lower on the week even after the session’s bounce.

Precious metals held their ground rather than extended. Gold (XAUUSD) eased 0.18% to $4,333.40 but is still up 6.9% on the week and 27.77% on the year. Silver (XAGUSD) was essentially flat at $63.54, though its weekly gain stands at 9.08% and its 12-month climb at 66.44%.

Platinum (XPTUSD) slipped 0.33% to $1,743.95, trimming a 6.73% weekly advance.

Indices

US benchmarks drifted lower into the close. The Dow (US30) fell 0.24% to 53,886.28 and the S&P 500 (US500) eased 0.13% to 7,743.33, while the Nasdaq 100 (UT100) was near flat at 29,717.05. All three remain firmly higher over the past week, the S&P up 1.77% and the Nasdaq up 2.99%.

Europe was mixed: the Euro Stoxx 50 (EU50) gained 0.46% to 6,530.68 and the CAC 40 (FR40) added 0.23%, while the DAX 40 (DE40) and FTSE 100 (UK100) each finished a touch softer. The Hang Seng (HK50) led globally, up 1.04% to 25,812.66 and 6.54% over the month.

Currencies

The dollar was soft against the commodity-linked and higher-yielding names. USDNOK fell 0.32% to 9.4652 and USDSEK dropped 0.19%, extending weekly slides of 0.77% and 1.30%. USDZAR eased 0.35% to 16.048, down 2.85% on the week, and USDMXN slipped 0.18% to 17.101.

Majors barely moved. EURUSD held at 1.15585 and GBPUSD at 1.3492, both fractionally firmer. USDJPY edged down to 157.69, now 2.47% lower over the month.

Crypto

Solana (SOLUSD) led the majors, up 1.81% to $77.27 and 5.22% on the week. BNB (BNBUSD) rose 1.29% to $607.24. Bitcoin (BTCUSD) added 0.29% to $65,089.32 and Ethereum (ETHUSD) gained 0.38% to $1,922.48, the latter up 7.62% over 30 days.

Into the new week, oil is the tape’s clear leader while precious metals sit on outsized weekly gains that held firm through the close.
