Crypto split down the middle into the New York close. Bitcoin firmed 1.56% to $78,934 and Solana added 1.42% to $96.72, but the day’s sharpest moves came on the losing side, where Dogecoin dropped 3.97% to $0.0896 and XRP fell 2.53% to $1.4812.
Crypto
The large caps held better than the rest. Ethereum edged up 0.72% to $2,480 and BNB gained 0.33% to $703.70, keeping the majors green while smaller tokens retreated.
The reversals were concentrated in the alts. Cardano slipped 2.52% to $0.2209 and Stellar shed 2.94%, joining Dogecoin and XRP at the bottom of the tape.
The pullbacks land against still-strong weekly context. XRP remains up 48.03% over the week and 33.29% on the month, while Dogecoin is 28.00% higher on the week despite today’s drop.
Indices
US tech carried the weakness. The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.18% to 29,041 and the S&P 500 eased 0.37% to 7,657, while the Dow bucked the move with a 0.25% gain to 53,454.
Asia was heavier still. The Nikkei 225 dropped 1.28% to 65,330 and the Hang Seng fell 1.04%, though the Nikkei holds a 53.17% gain over the past year.
Europe was mixed and quiet. The IBEX 35 rose 0.71% to 20,098 and the FTSE 100 added 0.35%, while the DAX 40 slipped 0.12% and the CAC 40 and Euro Stoxx 50 finished near flat.
Metals and energy
Gold pushed up 0.58% to $4,650.92, extending a 7.34% weekly advance and a 38.64% gain over the year. Silver diverged, easing 0.61% to $68.92 but still up 79.49% on a 52-week basis.
Palladium was the metals standout, rising 1.16% to $1,370.77, while platinum was little changed at $1,882.86.
Crude gave back ground. USOil fell 1.16% to $84.63 and UKOil dropped 1.27% to $90.17, trimming gains but leaving both up more than 30% year-on-year.
Currencies
The dollar was firm in spots. USDCAD rose 0.37% to 1.38436 and USDCHF added 0.22%, while the Aussie and Kiwi softened, AUDUSD down 0.29% at 0.71495 and NZDUSD off 0.36%.
The krone stood out on the other side. USDNOK fell 0.49% to 9.25696 and EURNOK dropped 0.78%, extending a monthly slide of 3.32% in USDNOK. USDZAR eased 0.07% to 15.977, now down 4.34% on the month.
After the close, the altcoin complex remains the session’s weak spot even as Bitcoin and the large caps hold their footing.
