Solana set the pace on Friday, up 6.47% to $108.62, the standout among a broadly firmer crypto board while European equities drifted lower into the close.

Indices

Paris was the weak spot in Europe. The CAC 40 fell 1.43% to 8,334.35, now down 1.64% on the week and the only major regional index lower over the month at -0.75%.

The Euro Stoxx 50 slipped 0.55% to 6,430.78 and the IBEX 35 dropped 0.81% to 19,885.24, though the Spanish benchmark still holds a 31.89% yearly gain. The FTSE 100 shed 0.64% to 10,796.54, while the DAX 40 held flat at 26,366.80.

Asia offered little support ahead of the London handover. The Nikkei 225 fell 1.37% to 66,164.60 despite a 54.65% year-on-year run, and the Hang Seng lost 0.57% to 25,451.76. Wall Street futures were steadier, with the S&P 500 off just 0.06% and the Nasdaq 100 down 0.04%.

Commodities and metals

Crude was the day’s other clear gainer. Brent rose 2.17% to $88.11 and WTI added 2.08% to $83.06, trimming their weekly declines of 4.41% and 3.91% respectively. Both remain roughly 30% higher over the year.

Gold slipped 0.5% to $4,600.47 but is still up 12.63% on the month and 34.72% on the year. Silver edged up 0.39% to $69.21, holding a 77.6% annual gain, while platinum added 0.21% to $1,850.02.

Currencies

The dollar was mixed and quiet. EUR/USD was virtually unchanged at 1.16515 and GBP/USD held at 1.3592. The greenback lost ground against the Nordics, with USD/NOK down 0.43% to 9.30435, and against the rand, USD/ZAR sitting 4.34% lower on the month.

The Australian dollar was the firmer major, AUD/USD up 0.19% to 0.71936 and 3.39% higher on the month.

Into the New York session, Paris and the wider European bourses remain the softest patch while crude and Solana carry the day’s momentum.
