Two forces split the tape as London wound down: precious metals in the platinum group ripped higher, while crude oil collapsed toward the bottom of the day’s board.
Metals
Palladium led everything, up 6.71% to 1,351.27, with platinum close behind at +6.50% to 1,740.16. Both extended weekly gains of roughly 6-7%, and platinum now sits 6.61% higher on the month.
Silver added 2.18% to 59.52, up 13.46% on the year. Gold was steadier, gaining 0.60% to 4,077.84 but still slightly negative over the past week and month.
Energy
Crude was the clear weak spot. US crude dropped 5.77% to 74.40 and Brent fell 5.35% to 78.18. Both are now down more than 10% on the week, though each remains up around 25% year-on-year, leaving the longer-term trend intact despite the session’s slide.
Indices
Equities pushed higher across the board. The Nasdaq 100 jumped 2.90% to 29,691.70, extending an 8.44% weekly advance. The S&P 500 rose 1.82% and the Dow added 1.81%.
Europe joined in, with the DAX up 1.03% to a fresh 26,373.97 and the Euro Stoxx 50 up 1.02%. The FTSE 100 lagged with a 0.27% gain. Overnight, the Nikkei 225 had already surged 2.01%.
Currencies
The dollar softened at the margins. USD/ZAR fell 1.15% and USD/SEK slid 0.62%, while the antipodeans firmed β AUD/USD up 0.64% and NZD/USD up 0.43%. EUR/USD held at 1.1525 and GBP/USD at 1.34473, both modestly higher.
The yen stayed soft after a heavy week, with USD/JPY at 157.72, though still down 3.42% over five sessions.
Into the US afternoon, the platinum-group rally and the sharp break in crude remain the session’s standout moves.
