Energy dominated the London session. USOil surged 4.47% to 81.48 and Brent’s UKOil climbed 4.21% to 86.62, extending a run that now stands at 9.47% and 10.8% over the week.

The precious metals kept pace, leaving crypto as the day’s clear laggard.

Commodities and metals

Crude’s move is the standout across all 84 instruments. Both contracts are up roughly 30% on the year, with USOil at 28.3% and UKOil at 30.38%.

Silver added 3.46% to 65.71, a fresh leg on a 10.59% weekly gain and a striking 74.4% advance over twelve months. Gold rose 1.29% to 4,389.22, up 7.78% on the week and 31.07% on the year.

Platinum firmed 0.77% to 1,755.15 and palladium gained 1.19% to 1,387.01, rounding out a broadly bid metals complex.

Currencies

The yen was the softest major. USDJPY rose 0.84% to 159.22, GBPJPY added 0.99% to 215.08, and CADJPY climbed 0.95% to 114.24 alongside firmer oil.

EURJPY gained 0.74% to 183.80, while AUDJPY and NZDJPY rose 0.66% and 0.73%. Against the dollar, moves were muted: EURUSD eased 0.13% to 1.15378 and GBPUSD edged up 0.13% to 1.35026.

USDCAD slipped 0.11% to 1.39361, down 1.6% on the month as the loonie tracked crude. USDZAR fell 0.11% to 16.135, off 1.48% on the week.

Crypto

The majors leaned lower. Ethereum dropped 1.78% to 1,874.83 and Bitcoin fell 1.21% to 64,052.13, both landing among the day’s biggest losers.

XRP lost 0.82% to 1.02, down 4.88% on the week, while Cardano slipped 0.57% to 0.1929 despite a 19.44% monthly gain. Solana bucked the trend with a 0.24% rise to 76.33.

Among the smaller names, XTZUSD and GRTUSD led decliners at -2.5% and -2.1%.

Equities

Europe finished flat. The DAX 40 added 0.05% to 26,337.34, the CAC 40 was unchanged at 8,723 and the Euro Stoxx 50 slipped 0.02%. The FTSE 100 lagged, down 0.24% to 10,856.84.

Asia was firmer, with the Nikkei 225 up 0.73% to 66,648.30 and the Hang Seng up 0.56%. In the US, the S&P 500 rose 0.13% and the Dow gained 0.12%, but the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.23% to 29,647.73.

The energy rally and the metals bid remain the session’s dominant threads; the crypto majors are the weak spot heading into the US close.
