Energy led the tape into the London close. WTI (USOil) climbed 3.19% to 84.12 and Brent (UKOil) added 3.02% to 89.49, the two standout gainers among the majors. Both barrels are up more than 2% on the week and roughly 34-35% over the year.

European equities went the other way, with the region’s benchmarks clustered near the bottom of the movers list.

Indices

The IBEX 35 was the weakest of the bunch, off 0.71% to 19,976, followed by the CAC 40 down 0.70% at 8,576 and the DAX 40 down 0.68% at 26,301. The Euro Stoxx 50 held up better with a 0.25% dip to 6,525, and the FTSE 100 eased 0.32% to 10,727.

Wall Street offered no relief during European hours. The S&P 500 was down 0.60% at 7,744, the Dow off 0.55% at 53,448 and the Nasdaq 100 down 0.46% at 29,980 β€” though the Nasdaq still carries a 1.45% weekly gain. Asia had closed mixed: the Nikkei 225 flat at 68,947 but up 2.57% on the week, and the Hang Seng up 0.39% to 25,374.

Despite today’s slip, the monthly picture in Europe remains firm: the DAX is up 5.88% and the Euro Stoxx 50 up 4.72% over the past month.

Metals

Precious metals extended their run. Gold rose 1.06% to 4,416.53, silver added 1.47% to 65.75 and platinum gained 1.25% to 1,775.92. The longer-horizon moves are the story here: silver is up 17.65% on the month and 72.8% on the year, with platinum up 11.95% over the month and gold up 32.59% year-on-year.

Crypto

Bitcoin firmed 2.29% to 64,269, the largest advance among the covered majors. Ethereum rose 1.68% to 1,905 and Solana added 1.79% to 75.82. XRP and Dogecoin each gained 0.98%, to 1.0016 and 0.0701 respectively.

The strength was uneven across the smaller names. XTZ jumped 3.73% and MATIC surged 8.18% on the day, while Cardano slipped 0.57% to 0.1734 and remains down 7.07% on the week. AXS was the day’s biggest decliner overall at -1.62%.

Currencies

FX was quiet by comparison. The dollar softened against the Nordics and commodity bloc, with USDNOK down 0.36% to 9.4055 β€” helped along by the oil bid β€” and the Australian dollar up 0.28% to 0.7103. EURUSD was essentially unchanged at 1.15753, holding a 1.32% monthly gain, while GBPUSD eased 0.04% to 1.35381.

The yen stayed on the back foot, with USDJPY at 159.38 and GBPJPY at 215.83, though both crosses remain lower on the month. EURAUD fell 0.30% to 1.6285 as the Aussie firmed across the board.

Into the New York afternoon, the split between a rallying oil-and-metals complex and a softer equity tape remains the session’s clearest divide.
