Crude oil dominated the European session, with Brent up 4.92% to $82.49 and WTI up 4.49% to $77.48. The bounce comes after a rough week β€” both grades are still down more than 7% over five sessions.

Cardano stole the headline elsewhere, gaining 6.4% to $0.2029 and extending a run that leaves it up 16.6% on the week and 26.6% on the month.

Energy and metals

The crude rebound was the clearest theme into the London close. Despite today’s move, the weekly picture stays negative, so the session read as a snap-back rather than a fresh trend.

Metals eased. Gold slipped 0.89% to $4,239.98 and silver fell 1.12% to $61.50, though both hold firmly higher on the week and month. Platinum dropped 1.41% to $1,728.72, while palladium was flat at $1,378.01.

Currencies

The dollar firmed broadly. USD/CHF rose 0.65% to 0.81186 and USD/JPY added 0.52% to 158.43. EUR/USD slipped 0.32% to 1.15187 and GBP/USD eased 0.13% to 1.34506.

The yen was the session’s soft spot on the crosses β€” GBP/JPY gained 0.41% to 213.14 and CAD/JPY rose 0.51% to 113.06, the latter helped by firmer crude. The rand was steady, with USD/ZAR barely changed at 16.296 but down 1.34% on the week.

Equities and crypto

European indices were mixed. The CAC 40 rose 0.35% and the Euro Stoxx 50 added 0.28%, while the DAX slipped 0.31% to 26,140.61 and the FTSE 100 eased 0.19%. US futures pointed lower into the afternoon, with the Dow off 1.13% and the S&P 500 down 0.40%.

Beyond Cardano, crypto was largely red. XRP fell 2.59% to $1.0331, Stellar dropped 2.07% and Solana lost 1.5%. Bitcoin held near flat at $64,404.62, down 0.29%.

Into the US session, crude’s rebound and the softer major-index open remain the two moves to track.
