Canada’s inflation batch - CPI m/m, Median CPI y/y and Trimmed CPI y/y - landed at 12:30 UTC, and the Canadian dollar firmed slightly across most pairs. The largest move came in NZDCAD, which slipped 0.05% as the loonie ticked higher.
Where the CAD moved
NZDCAD led the reaction, easing 0.053% from 0.81974 to 0.81931 as the Canadian dollar gained ground.
AUDCAD followed closely, down 0.052% from 0.98675 to 0.98624.
USDCAD drifted lower by 0.038%, moving from 1.38581 to 1.38528 as the loonie firmed against the greenback.
GBPCAD eased 0.016% from 1.87840 to 1.87810, while EURCAD barely budged, off 0.008% from 1.60617 to 1.60604.
CADCHF was essentially flat, up a marginal 0.003% from 0.58465 to 0.58467.
What the reaction shows
The reaction was muted overall, with the loonie gaining only fractions of a percent against most counterparts. The firmest moves clustered in the commodity-linked crosses, NZDCAD and AUDCAD, where the Canadian dollar edged higher.
Major pairs such as USDCAD, GBPCAD and EURCAD saw progressively smaller shifts, and CADCHF showed almost no response at all. Taken together, the data drew a modest, broadly consistent bid for the Canadian dollar rather than any sharp repricing.
