Canada’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) is released at 12:30 UTC on 17 August 2026, making it the key data point for CAD traders this session.
What the Canada CPI m/m measures
The CPI m/m tracks the change in the price of a basket of goods and services purchased by Canadian consumers from one month to the next. It is the most widely watched gauge of consumer inflation and feeds directly into expectations around Bank of Canada policy.
The consensus forecast is 0.4%, compared with the previous reading of -0.4%. Markets watch the release closely because inflation trends shape the interest-rate outlook, and rate expectations are a primary driver of currency valuation.
How the CAD pairs are trading
Ahead of the print, moves across the Canadian dollar crosses are modest on our feed.
CADCHF is the biggest mover, trading at 0.58469, down 0.23% on the day. AUDCAD sits at 0.98209, easing 0.04%, while EURCAD is broadly flat at 1.60423, off 0.02%.
On the other side, GBPCAD is at 1.8774 (+0.02%), USDCAD holds 1.3874 (+0.02%) and NZDCAD trades 0.81688 (+0.01%). The spread of small gains and losses points to a market in a holding pattern before the data.
The figure is watched as a read on the pace of Canadian consumer inflation and what it may imply for the Bank of Canada’s rate path.
