Australia’s inflation figures β€” CPI m/m, CPI y/y and Trimmed Mean CPI m/m β€” landed at 01:30 UTC on 26 August 2026. The Australian dollar firmed modestly across the board, with AUD/NZD posting the largest move.

Where the AUD moved

AUD/NZD led the reaction, rising 0.23% from 1.19938 to 1.20210 β€” the standout mover on our feed.

AUD/CHF followed, up 0.16% from 0.57437 to 0.57527.

The pound gave ground to the Aussie, with GBP/AUD slipping 0.11% from 1.90468 to 1.90268.

AUD/USD ticked up 0.08% from 0.71651 to 0.71710, while EUR/AUD eased 0.05% from 1.62815 to 1.62735, reflecting mild Aussie strength against the euro.

AUD/JPY was essentially flat, edging just 0.01% from 114.0735 to 114.084.

What the reaction shows

The move was broadly consistent but small in scale. The Australian dollar strengthened against every counterpart on our list, though the magnitude stayed contained β€” the biggest shift, AUD/NZD, was still under a quarter of a percent.

The reaction concentrated in the cross rates, with AUD/NZD and AUD/CHF showing the clearest response and AUD/JPY barely registering a change. Overall, this was a muted, uniformly Aussie-positive reaction rather than a sharp repricing.
