The Bank of Japan Press Conference landed at 06:30 UTC on 31 July 2026, and the yen softened slightly against its major peers. USD/JPY led the reaction, edging up 0.087% in the minutes that followed.
Where the yen moved
USD/JPY was the standout mover, rising from 160.336 to 160.476, a gain of 0.087% for the dollar against the yen.
CAD/JPY followed, up 0.067% from 114.42 to 114.50. SGD/JPY added 0.05%, climbing from 125.039 to 125.101.
The European crosses barely budged. EUR/JPY firmed 0.021% to 184.75, while GBP/JPY was near flat at 215.828, a move of just 0.009%.
AUD/JPY was the lone decliner, slipping a marginal 0.004% from 112.8355 to 112.8305 β effectively unchanged.
What the reaction shows
The response to the BOJ Press Conference was contained. Every notable move landed under a tenth of a percent, and the direction was consistent: a mild, broad-based easing in the yen.
The pressure concentrated in USD/JPY and the commodity crosses CAD/JPY and SGD/JPY, while the euro and sterling pairs registered little change. AUD/JPY stood apart as the only pair to lean, fractionally, the other way.
Taken together, this was a muted reaction rather than a decisive repricing of the yen.
