The yen is the story as the day opens. USD/JPY dropped 2.31% to 159.53, and every yen cross in the data followed it lower β€” CAD/JPY -2.17%, SGD/JPY -1.88%, EUR/JPY -1.83% and GBP/JPY -1.62%. That broad move dominates the session’s losers board.

Equities and crypto leaned the other way, and the standout single mover was Uniswap, up 11.07% on the day and 20.79% on the week.

Currencies

The dollar was soft against most majors. EUR/USD added 0.49% to 1.15218, GBP/USD rose 0.71% to 1.346, and the antipodeans led the G10 β€” NZD/USD +1.16% and AUD/USD +0.93%.

The greenback also slipped against the Scandies and the rand, with USD/SEK -1.48%, USD/CHF -1.12% and USD/ZAR -1.58%. The clear exception was the yen, which strengthened against everything.

Indices

Risk appetite showed up in the benchmarks. The Nikkei 225 jumped 3.47% to 63,586.72, though it remains down 8.59% on the month.

The Nasdaq 100 climbed 3.0% and the S&P 500 added 1.29%, while the Dow rose 0.96%. Europe joined in, with the Euro Stoxx 50 up 2.1% and the IBEX 35 up 2.04%.

Metals and crypto

The precious complex firmed led by the industrial metals. Palladium rose 3.69% and platinum added 2.42%, with silver up 1.38% at 58.98. Gold was quieter, up 0.44% to 4,102.78.

In crypto, beyond Uniswap’s 11% jump, Cardano rose 5.19% and BNB gained 3.42% to 590.42. Bitcoin was more subdued at 64,683.36, up 1.24%, and Ethereum added 0.63% while holding a 10.12% monthly gain.

What to watch

The yen’s broad strength is the session’s clearest theme, showing up uniformly across its crosses. Crude remains the week’s soft spot, with USOil down 7.38% over five sessions despite a firm month.
